Summary:

Then and Now: Photographs of Miami, Florida is a visual documentary book that uses side-by-side photographic comparisons to chart the dramatic transformation of Miami over time. It pairs historic black-and-white images drawn from archival sources with contemporary color photographs taken largely by photographer Simon Clay, creating a compelling “then-and-now” re-photography format that lets readers directly see how key locations have evolved.

Each spread typically places an older image of a Miami landmark, street scene, or neighborhood beside a modern photograph of the same spot, highlighting changes in architecture, urban development, and city life. Through this visual juxtaposition, the book not only celebrates Miami’s rich history but also underscores the dynamic growth that helped shape the city’s identity as a major metropolitan center.

Presented as both a historical record and a photographic exploration, the book appeals to residents, visitors, and anyone interested in urban change, preservation, and the story of Miami’s rise from its early days to the present.
