Photographs, some in soft focus, in warm tone monochrome of desert landscapes, birds, and animals by Khalid Bin Hamad Bin Ahmad Al-Thani taken in the desert in the Arabian Peninsula, mostly all in Qatar, although unstated. 120 pages. Summary:
Here Is My Secret is a photography book by Qatari artist Khalid Bin Hamad Bin Ahmad Al-Thani that presents a poetic and intimate visual exploration of the Qatari desert landscape through images the photographer made between 2008 and 2009 during his travels across Qatar with a Leica camera and a four-wheel-drive vehicle.
Rather than focusing on urban development or human-made change, Al-Thani directs his lens toward the subtle, understated beauty of the natural environment — from lone trees and rolling sand plains to herds of gazelles and resting falcons. His work emphasizes quiet moments and humble details that reveal the life and character of a landscape often perceived as barren.
The book functions as both a visual contemplation of nature and a cultural statement, offering an authentic photographic language rooted in the rhythms and textures of Qatar’s terrain. By revealing aspects of the desert that might otherwise go unnoticed, Al-Thani invites viewers to reconsider their assumptions about this environment and to appreciate its poetic depth and quiet vibrancy.
Published by Steidl with 120 pages of striking imagery, Here Is My Secret serves as a meditative portrait of place, capturing the interplay of light, space, and life in one of the Gulf’s most iconic yet enigmatic landscapes.
