Kenneth Kaplowitz is an American photographer, artist, and educator known for his evocative visual explorations of light, shadow, and environmental form. A dedicated faculty member in the Department of Art and Art History at The College of New Jersey (formerly Trenton State College), Kaplowitz served as a professor of photography and fine arts for over four decades, mentoring generations of emerging artists before being named Professor Emeritus. His photographic oeuvre spans a wide array of conceptual and fine art series, including notable bodies of work such as his Tree Shadows series, which translates organic forms into striking abstract studies of natural light and shadow patterns. Capturing subject matter ranging from intimate botanical details and regional landscapes to street photography and biblical illustrations, his artistic approach is guided by a spontaneous, continuous engagement with his surroundings, a philosophy highlighted in his 50-year retrospective exhibition, My Camera Is Always With Me, hosted at the TCNJ Art Gallery in 2021. Through decades of regional gallery exhibitions, academic service, and persistent photographic experimentation, Kaplowitz has built a lasting visual record rooted in observational clarity and quiet aesthetic reflection.
