Auction of photographs, photographic literature, and a few other items related to photography.  Wraps, near fine with signature of previous owner and prices realized sheets laid in. 559 lots, with many illustrated.  Includes examples from many of the leading figures in the history of photography. Among the highlights of this sale, presented by Argus, which is described as the first auction house devoted exclusively to the sale of photographs and related material, were works by William Henry Fox Talbot, Louis Jacques Mandé Daguerre (a watercolor), Gustave Le Gray, Thomas Eakins, Heinrich Kuhn, Edward Weston, and Ansel Adams.  A complete set of 11 volumes of Eadweard Muybridge, Animal Locomotion, sold for $66,000 and George N. Barnard, Photographic Views of Sherman’s Campaign, realized $11,000.   Alexander Gardner’s Photographic Sketch Book of the War (1866) was offered but did not sell.  An album of 191 cartes-de-visite by Mathew Brady of notable figures in the Civil War era sold for $2,420.  The largest lot was a collection of 1,574 architectural views, mostly from Europe, that was bought for $770.  The prices realized sheets also include the results of Auction #6, Photographs by Edward Steichen.
