The Best of Photo & Film Right Before Your Eyes was a major retrospective exhibition organized by the George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film. The exhibition ran from September 13, 2003, through April 11, 2004, at the museum's historic landmark location in Rochester, New York.
To accompany the exhibition, the museum issued a 12-page companion guide showcasing a curation of reproductions highlighting some of the most iconic masterpieces from its world-renowned collection.
The showcase was designed to span the complete historical and technical trajectory of both mediums:
-
Photography: Spanning from the earliest 19th-century daguerreotypes to modern, computer-enhanced digital collages.
-
Moving Image: Celebrating world cinema from early experiments by Thomas Edison and the Lumière brothers up through modern film preservation.
The exhibition highlighted the museum's vast archives, emphasizing its foundational pillars of photographic history, cinematographic technology, and the ongoing preservation of visual media.
