The exhibition Six Photographers: An Exhibition of Contemporary Photography was held from March 7 to April 11, 1965, at the College of Fine and Applied Arts at the University of Illinois, Urbana. Organized by the renowned landscape photographer and faculty member Art Sinsabaugh, who also provided the introductory text, the showcase highlighted six highly influential, distinct voices in mid-century American photography. The featured artists included Alice Andrews, Ruth Bernhard, Paul Caponigro, Imogen Cunningham, Jerry N. Uelsmann, and Minor White.
The accompanying exhibition catalog was published as a slim, twenty-page oblong softcover booklet in stapled wrappers. It provided biographical information for each participant alongside a comprehensive checklist of the works on display in the gallery. To highlight the unique aesthetic and technical approach of each artist, the publication included one representative black-and-white image from each featured photographer.
