[Born in 1939, Sheila Metzner's photographs are held by the Museum of Modern Art (NY), the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Getty Museum, and other prestigious repositories.] Very good with a few small indentations on front cover and small black dot at top of text block near spine (not a remainder mark, it was used to price the book at a sale).  

Sheila Metzner (born 1939) is an American photographer celebrated for her sensual, painterly aesthetic and her pioneering contributions to fine art, fashion, portraiture, and still life photography. After studying at the Pratt Institute, Metzner began her career in advertising as the first female art director at Doyle Dane Bernbach, working alongside photographic legends like Richard Avedon and Diane Arbus. Her transition to full-time photography gained major momentum in 1978 when John Szarkowski included her work in a Museum of Modern Art exhibition. Drawing inspiration from 19th-century Pictorialism and masters like Alfred Stieglitz and Edward Steichen, Metzner developed a signature romantic style—often utilizing the rare French Fresson printing technique to achieve soft-focus, deeply saturated imagery. She made history as the first female photographer to collaborate on an ongoing basis with Voguemagazine and went on to shoot iconic commercial campaigns alongside evocative portraits of high-profile cultural figures.Inducted into the International Photography Hall of Fame in 2025, her photographs are held in major permanent collections worldwide, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Getty Museum, and MoMA.
