John Bloom (b. 1948) is an American photographer, writer, and photography critic based in San Francisco, known for his work in photo-painting and darkroom manipulation—often combining applied pigments with photographic prints to blend reality with painterly abstraction—as well as his influential interviews and critical essays published in works like Photography at Bay. Denny Moers (b. 1953) is an American photographer and visual artist celebrated for his innovative darkroom process of creating photo-monoprints, in which he selectively fixes black-and-white prints while controlling light and chemical oxidation to produce rich, painterly tonalities ranging from rust to deep blue without the use of applied paints. Both artists are noted for bridging the boundaries between traditional lens-based photography and hand-altered fine art techniques.
