Jon Erikson is an American documentary photographer best known for his collaborative visual studies with author and child psychiatrist Robert Coles. The son of renowned psychoanalyst Erik Erikson and author Joan Erikson, he pursued documentary photography to examine social issues, working class realities, and community life across mid-century America. His black-and-white photobooks include The Middle Americans: Proud and Uncertain (1971) and A Spectacle Unto the World (1974), which paired his intimate imagery with sociopolitical text. Beyond his documentary projects, Erikson's portraiture frequently appeared on cover art and in published biographies examining his father's life and intellectual circle.
