Printed in 600-line screen quadtone on heavy cover stock to preserve fidelity to the originals, the volume unveils a lesser-known dimension of Carter’s artistic output, highlighting subjects he photographed across his career alongside a introductory statement by the artist. Rather than treating the human figure as a conventional anatomical study, Carter approaches his subjects with a sense of quiet grace, democratic reverence, and spontaneous observation. Keith Carter is an internationally recognized photographer and educator who holds the endowed Walles Chair of Art at Lamar University in his hometown of Beaumont, Texas. Known for his evocative visual poetry and mastery of light, memory, and metaphor, Carter began his engagement with photography using his mother's Rolleiflex camera. His work frequently explores themes of folklore, mythology, family, everyday life, and the natural world, captured through selective focus and modified camera lenses to evoke an internal sense of dreamlike wonder. Over the course of his career, Carter has received numerous honors, including the Lange/Taylor Prize from the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University, two Regional Survey Grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, and both the University Professor Award and Distinguished Faculty Lecturer Award at Lamar University.
