Nicolai (Nicholas) Canetti is an American designer, photographer, and entrepreneur best known as a pioneer of postmodern consumer products and lifestyle design. Educated in graphic design and photography, he worked early in his career as a publishing art director, magazine editor, and photography professor. As a photographer, he published more than 15 books capturing international cities, cultural landmarks, and nature, including volumes on London, Paris, New York, San Francisco, and East Africa. In 1980, he established the Canetti Design Group in New York City, transitioning into product design where he created iconic items such as the Original Magnet Frame, postmodern desk clocks, and the foam SoftPHONE. His work, recognized with numerous graphic and industrial design awards, has been featured in major department stores, museum shops, and permanent museum collections worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art.
