Gary Saretzky is an American photographer, archivist, photo historian, and educator based in New Jersey. Beginning a serious practice in fine art and documentary photography in 1972, he went on to teach the craft for 35 years at Mercer County Community College, alongside leading numerous public lectures through the New Jersey Council for the Humanities. As a photographic historian and archivist, Saretzky has extensively researched, written, and cataloged 19th-century photohistory—notably specializing in regional New Jersey photographers—and authored over a hundred scholarly articles, reviews, and documentary photo books. His personal photographic work spans diverse, long-term visual series—including local New Jersey community portraiture, live blues musicians, architectural studies, and wildlife—which have been featured in standalone monographs and retrospective museum and gallery exhibitions.
