Duell, Sloan and Pearce, 1948. 1st edition. [The last of the Rosskams' five documentary photography books and the only one in which Louise Rosskam is fully credited on the title page. Highly praised in book reviews when it appeared, Towboat River is the result of several years spent by the photographers on the Mississippi and Ohio rivers, documenting the life of those who move freight, through photographs and recorded interviews that are quoted in the book, an early example of an oral history project. The photographs used in this book, which can be considered a precursor to Edward Burtynsky's Oil (2009), are now at the University of Louisville.] Cloth, near fine, with protected good dust jacket that has a large chip on front panel and two small chips on rear panel. Signed and inscribed by Louise Rosskam to photohistorian and archivist Gary Saretzky, June 8, 1998. Saretzky subsequently published a related article in The Photo Review, 25th Anniversary Issue, 24:1 & 2 (Winter/Spring 2001) that includes"Bliss on the Old Miss: The Rosskams and Towboat River."
