The exhibition Six Photographers: An Exhibition of Contemporary Photography was held from March 5 to April 9, 1967, at the College of Fine and Applied Arts at the University of Illinois, Urbana. Organized by committee members Roland A. Nameth and Art Sinsabaugh, the showcase highlighted significant, distinct voices in mid-century American photography. It featured the diverse technical and aesthetic works of Wynn Bullock, Marie Cosindas, Barbara Crane, Naomi Savage, Frederick Sommer, and Paul Vanderbilt.
The accompanying exhibition catalog was a slim, oblong softcover booklet that provided biographical profiles and small portraits of each participant. To represent their artistic styles, the publication included six tipped-in plates. This featured one photograph per artist, consisting of five black-and-white images and one color photograph by Marie Cosindas, capturing a pivotal moment of artistic transition in the contemporary photography landscape.
